IP68 Illuminated Bollard
Designed in response to market requests while working at Simbars UK, this bollard was designed to the highest levels of ingress protection suitable for exterior furniture in response to products we saw on the market, filled with water, algae, and other detritus.

The Problem
Clear Design Flaws
Following some preliminary images sent by the firm’s customers, shown below, is was clear there was a fundamental design flaw in a lot of existing products’ ability to remain sealed over time. Some designs seemingly without contingency for damage or thermal expansion, significant factors when designing outdoor furniture, particularly when in electronic applications.
Tamper Proof, & Reliable sealing.
The two clear parameters from conversations with clients the company supplied to was that the unit needed to survive harsh temperature changes, wind, rain, possibly even flooding. An extra requirement for all street furniture is to be robust enough to withstand the general abuse put upon it by the public, and wildlife, thus, tamper proofing was also required to ensure the unit couldn’t be opened by anyone without proper tools.
Through several iterations and failed sealing tests a functioning prototype was tested and passed, leaving us with a sleek design, outmatching the other bollards on the market for performance, and ease of maintenance.
